🩷 Salted, tender, and so simple — we made a home-style pork shank boil without any fancy tricks.
Nothing complicated.
Just pork, salt, a little ginger powder, and some time. 🥩
It’s not restaurant-perfect, but it’s the kind of meal that feels just right at home.

🏡 Intro
Honestly, we didn’t expect much at first.
Boiled pork shank sounded way too plain.
But sometimes, keeping it simple brings out the best.
Today, it’s just about pork, salt, ginger powder, and water.
No marinades, no heavy seasoning — just basics.
And the funny thing is, it turns out incredibly tender and clean-tasting.
Perfect for wrapping in fresh greens with a little dipping sauce.
We’re not chefs.
We just tried it at home, kept things easy, and somehow ended up with something dangerously good.
✨ It’s tender.
✨ It’s clean.
✨ It’s honestly better than we expected.
📋 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)
✅ Pork Shank (Satae) – about 1.5kg
✅ Himalayan Pink Salt – 3 tbsp
✅ Ginger Powder – 1 tbsp
✅ Water – 3 liters
📌 Yep, just four things. That’s really all you need.
🧑🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Bring 3 liters of water to a boil.
Add 3 tbsp of himalayan pink salt and 1 tbsp of ginger powder.
2️⃣ While waiting, rinse the pork shanks under cold water to remove any extra blood.
(We cut them in half because they were a little too chunky.)
3️⃣ Once the water is boiling, gently drop the pork in.
Cover with a lid and simmer over medium heat (highlight level 7) for about 1 hour.
4️⃣ After 1 hour, lift the pork out and cover it loosely with plastic wrap.
Let it rest for about 10 minutes — it really locks in that juiciness.
5️⃣ Slice thinly and serve with fresh greens and your favorite dipping sauce.
(If you love ssam wraps like we do, this is the moment.)
💡 Tips
🔹 Don’t skip the resting time.
It keeps the pork moist and gives it that extra chewy tenderness.
🔹 Stick to just salt and ginger powder.
We were tempted to throw in a few more things but… trust us, it’s better simple.
🔹 Cut the shank into even pieces before cooking.
(We didn’t at first — lesson learned. 😂)
🔹 Best eaten wrapped in fresh lettuce with a dab of ssamjang.
Simple, but insanely satisfying.
⚠️ Warning: it’s dangerously easy to eat a whole plate alone.
