🩵 Marbled soondae (seonji), one-minute heat, and a seed ssamjang dip that rewrites the rules.
I didn’t expect much — just missed the Palcheon Soondae food truck.
But the soondae (seonji) pack from CU convenience store?
Turned out to be something else entirely.

🏪 Intro
Today I wanted soondae.
But the Palcheon Soondae food truck wasn’t at its usual spot.
So I popped into a CU convenience store and grabbed this neat little soondae pack.
Turns out this isn’t just any microwave soondae.
It’s officially licensed from “Lee Buk Bang”,
a North Korean-style soondae omakase restaurant in Seoul’s Mapo district.
That alone made me curious.
And honestly? Wasn’t sure what to expect — but I was hopeful.
It was simple — just soondae and seed ssamjang.
One minute in the microwave, no cutting, no water, no mess.
That was already a win.
And then the flavor hit.
That seed ssamjang had texture — grainy and nutty, with a distinct bite.
It didn’t hide the meatiness of the soondae — it sharpened it.
The casing had a nice snap, the filling was chewy but not rubbery,
and the richness from the fat pulled it all together.
Honestly? Palcheon Soondae, I still love you — but today, you lost.
Next time, I’m buying two.
🍛 What’s in the Bowl?
✅ Choi Ji-hyung’s Seed Ssamjang Soondae (Seonji) Pack (CU 편의점)
✅ 200g Vacuum-Sealed Soondae (Seonji)
✅ 50g Seed Ssamjang Sauce
✅ Black Tray
⏱️ Ready in Minutes
1️⃣ Remove the soondae and sauce from the tray
2️⃣ Slightly open the soondae vacuum pack and place it in the tray
3️⃣ Microwave uncovered
· 1000W: 1 min
· 700W: 1 min 30 sec
4️⃣ Plate the soondae (seonji) and dip in the seed ssamjang
📌 Pro tip
There’s no need to slice. The pieces are pre-cut and portioned.
Dip, don’t pour. That nutty ssamjang hits better in small bites.
📝 What It Tastes Like
🔹 Soondae (seonji) is soft but springy, full of savory juice
🔹 The seed ssamjang has a nutty bite — like gochujang met ground grains
🔹 No bitterness, no odd smell — just clean, fatty flavor
🔹 The snap of the casing gives it a street-food edge
🔹 It feels like soondae from a bar, not a microwave
💭 Overall Thoughts
Simple. Fast. Surprisingly satisfying.
This isn’t just convenient — it’s genuinely well-made.
And that seed ssamjang? Unexpected, and maybe unbeatable.
I wish there had been a bit more —
but then again, I’ll just buy two next time.
