Uijeongbu Army Stew with Rice – 의정부 사골 부대찌개

🩵 Classic army stew. Milder broth, solid toppings, and enough heat to get you sweating — just how you want it.

I wasn’t planning to do much.
Just a bowl to keep me warm — simple, salty, and maybe a little spicy.
But this one? It came through.

🏪 Intro

Today I grabbed the Uijeongbu-style Army Stew from Paldo Han-Kki.
It’s supposed to be a bit different — lighter broth, cleaner flavor.

I started by microwaving the rice.
Then I opened the stew pouch and poured it into the black bowl.
I added hot water to the fill line, then hit the microwave — 4 minutes 30 seconds at 700W.

At this point, I dropped in my go-to trio: frozen octopus slices, chili pepper, and scallions.
You know me — I like to tweak everything. 😏

The scent hit as soon as the microwave stopped.
Soy, sausage, and that slight funk from kimchi.
It already looked promising — bright red-orange, packed with bean sprouts and napa cabbage.

I gave it a stir.
Then slowly folded in the rice — not all at once, just enough to keep the broth from splashing.

That first spoonful?
Balanced. Not too heavy, but still bold.
The broth wasn’t as rich as the usual army stew — and that’s what made it interesting.

🍛 What’s in the Bowl?

✅ Black Bowl + Water Line Marker
✅ Optional Add-ons: Frozen Octopus, Sliced Chili, Scallions

⏱️ Ready in Minutes

1️⃣ Microwave the rice (open to dotted line)
· 700W: 2 min
2️⃣ Open the budaejjigae pouch and pour into bowl
3️⃣ Fill with hot water to the marked line
4️⃣ Add optional toppings (chili, octopus, etc.)
5️⃣ Microwave again
· 1000W: 4 min
· 700W: 4 min 30 sec
6️⃣ Stir gently
7️⃣ Add scallions and spoon in rice slowly

📌 Pro tip
Don’t dump the rice in all at once — stir in portions so the broth doesn’t splash.

📝 What It Tastes Like

🔹 Milder broth than usual budaejjigae — clean, savory, and well-seasoned
🔹 Sausage bring that classic umami backbone
🔹 Bean sprouts and napa cabbage lighten the bowl
🔹 The octopus adds chew and a dash of briny depth
🔹 With scallions on top, every spoon feels fresh and sharp

💭 Overall Thoughts

I was curious how mild-style budaejjigae would hit.
Turns out — it holds its own. The broth’s cleaner, but still delivers comfort.
And with the sausage, and bean sprouts, it feels like a real meal.

Next time?
I might go heavier on the chili. But even without it, this one holds up.
Cozy, filling, and just different enough to remember.
